Update

No more updates on the dogs, although I did spot a few of them on the NHSPCA website.

I am going to make our $300 donation to the Shelter Partners program today via paypal and I have some great news! Apparently there was a total of $250 donated directly to the Shelby County shelter for our trip which brings our grand total of money raised to $1,500!!! You guys are awesome!

Also, the van is being picked up in Bristol by the couple that left the Tuesday after us. Kudos to them for taking on driving the 18 hours back solo. It is a great relief to know that the van is back in action.

  1. Hey - you guys rock! So cool that you did the trip - cooler that you raised the money - even cooler yet that you gave the excess to the shelter. The world is a better place because of you two. Keep blogging, we love it.

  2. I had a crazy busy week but just got caught up on all the adventures & misadventures of the trip! Loved it!! Great writing; I laughed AND cried in several parts. You ladies rock for doing this. I hope you get updates on at least some of the dogs & puppies. Question: do they have a similar program for cats? At the Miami shelter I volunteer at, the adoption ratio of dogs to cats is around 20:1, unfortunately.

  3. Dear Brooke & Brittany,
I don't think I've ever written to two angels before, but after just reading through your whole blog I realize that I am now!! You two are wonderful, amazing women!
I am only sad that I didn't find you one week earlier... as I live in New Hampshire (only 30minutes west of Nashua...) My husband and I moved here a year and a half ago, with our shelter dog Ella, from Texas. Coming from Dallas where there are 15 pages of female dogs, alone, at the SPCA, we were shocked after moving here to find there weren't any dogs at the shelters. As you wrote in your initial post there are strong spay and neuter and licensing laws here! We've been shocked, and amazed to never even see a stray dog. And even more amazed to see this gorgeous new shelter in Bedford NH with only three dogs in it. Apparently they can only take dogs from their township, but it's a shame such a lovely shelter isn't being used. Sorry I digress...
You girls did an amazing thing! We want to find Ella a 'sister', and were thinking we would have to go back to Texas to get a Southern girl, but now we will watch the Shelby shelter partners and look for our Southern girl up here!
Do you think you will do this again? If so, I want to invite you to stay with us-- or at least have a contact number in case you were to need anything. I will email it to you.
I'm off to make a donation. I look forward to hearing updates on 'your' dogs!!
    all the best,
    joan

  4. No Anastasia, in New Hampshire they actually have a serious over crowding problem with cats. I don't understand why their laws don't cover cats as well but hopefully that is something that will happen in the future.

  5. Hey guys,
Sara sent me the link to your blog... enjoyed reading it. My husband and I picked up the Sprinter and delivered it back to the humane society yesterday. It was quite a long trip with only one driver per van but we were glad to get it back to the shelter for them.
I am glad that you made it home safely and hope that you get to go on another trip to New Hampshire soon - now that the Sprinter is back in business :)

  6. Melissa- Thank you so much! I'm glad Sara sent you the link. I hope you guys had a wonderful trip. We worried so much about the van and the hassle of getting it back. You guys are awesome for volunteering to do that!
